mama!

my mom cooked some great food for me today during my visit.  i was painfully full which is a usual thing for me when i go home.  my mom has a way with simple food.. yums. it was a mash up, but a good one.

going to pauls tomorrow!

shrimp cocktail
salted green beans
corn on the cob
coleslaw
oven baked pepper potato (from their garden!)
spaghetti squash with marinara
apricots + peaches

dips!

i tried a nice co-workers parsley hummus today and was inspired to make some of my own.

parsley-red bell pepper- chickpea - garlic dip w cheese bread (a little soupy!)
spaghetti squash with red onion, soy beef, tomato sauce
breaded zucchini sticks

honestly.  all of these things looked better than they tasted.  this was/is sad.

all the time.

my folks visited me today for my tour of pica!  it was really inspiring.  and my plan is to attend in june, after i'm done some college.  woo-wee.  so excited.  we toured the school, got some information and ate at bistro 101 which was kind of hilarious.  i ordered the zucchini soup, tuna and the apple-peach cobbler.  the service was funny...(all student led) and really sweet.  i didn't have my camera with me, so my dad took some cell phone pictures.  maybe i'll post them later.  they are funny too.  i thought the food was real yummy, although they had run out of some stuff.

one of my favorite things about my family and their eating habits is that they stick to what they like.  everytime they visit me we go for chinese at commercial and 12th.  here. chinese food can be sick, guilty, bad/good, msg dreamy.. but this place serves it up yum.  i think.  holy delicious. ha-ha!  good food for sure, but i think they got the fortune wrong.....

spicy green beans
sweet and sour pork
vegetable chow mein

thank you uncle.

my fridge has some beautiful food in it.  lots of fresh veggies ready to be cooked.  walnut bread, sundried tomatoes, fresh pasta, yams.  how sad. too tired.  thank you pizza man.  you save us sometimes.

pender.

i had a real nice night last night and was able to cook with some super fresh stuff.

this was nice.

i never cook for more than 2.. because i am scared of people.  i tend to set bizarre expectations on myself, and act silly.  i throw stuff.  or get hot and mad.  but this was real nice.

glazed carrots with mint
orzo salad with feta, peppers and red onion and a lemon balsamic vinaigrette (i had tried the one at duso's and thought it would be nice to make)
queso! (baked brie, rosemary garlic toasted bread and red pepper jelly)
walnut and gorgonzola ravioli w honey balsamic and parm-parsley baked zucchini

i would like to try to make the ravioli one day myself.  i bought it here, and it was beautiful.
